This blog post is about why batsmen attempt those impossible shots. Even in test matches, why play high risk shots that may get you a boundary, but will probably get you out.
one of the annoying things about NZ cricket at the moment, is that many of the batsmen play one day or twenty twenty cricket in test matches. So often, (and its not just NZ), we see out top order fail. many playing balls that they dont have to!!!!
its a mental discipline, and probably reflects quite a few things.
too much one day or 20/20 cricket. Lack of patience and the expectation of instant or near instant results. I do admire Tim McIntosh's efforts, though I do wonder if his actual ability is top class. He is a very good first class player, i have no doubt about that, but test cricket against the top level is completely different. Good on him and I really hope he does well!!! (We do really need another Mark Richardson at the top of the NZ batting, sorry!!) :-)
Another exasperation is Ross Taylor. Very talented, however should really be looking to score more runs at test level. a quick hundred is great, or even a 50 or 60, but we need more from a guy who can scale the heights of the best in the world if he can concentrate long enough. My only complaint...... otherwise he is an awesome player and great ambassador for NZ!
